How a Home Cleaning Service Can Change Your Life

There are countless ways in which to improve your life. You can lose weight, take a class, learn something new, or reduce your work hours. You can make more money, find a better partner, or start working out. But one of the best ways you can change your life is reduce the amount of time you spend doing things other than living it. Let's face it, very few people see vacuuming and mopping as chores they would rather be doing than anything else. But freeing up your time is only one way in which a home cleaning service can change your life. Here are some more benefits to taking the plunge.

Get Rid of the Clutter

A dirty room is the love of every teenage boy and the bane of every mother. But clutter is more than just something to be embarrassed about. While there is the occasional story about a genius that can't do his best work in anything less than a complete pigsty, the majority of people can function far more efficiently in a clean space. Even if you aren't worried about getting work done in your house, it is difficult for many people to simply relax when they look around and see an unmade bed here and a messy kitchen counter there. A home cleaning service will make sure you can concentrate on the things you want to do, even if it's nothing more important than watching TV.

An Inviting Abode

It doesn't matter whether you work in an immaculate office all day or a sloppy barn; the last thing you want to come home to is a mess. A mess means more work and that isn't something you want to think about on the commute. On the other hand, a house that has been made spotless from top to bottom by a professional home cleaning service is one that extends its arms out in a warm embrace as you pull into your driveway. You remember the wonderful smell of baking cookies when you walked into your grandmother's house? It can be like that again, except the smell might be lemon-scented cleaner instead of gingerbread.

Keeping Up With The Chores

Even if you are fairly good about keeping up with a regular tidying schedule, you probably have a tendency to let the big jobs slack for a while. If you let enough of them slack, you will be forced to set aside a weekend every now and then to really clean from floor to ceiling. If you have a home cleaning service keeping up with all of the necessary chores, you don't have to ever lose another weekend to such a mundane task.

Vinegar As Cleaner: Is Distilled Vinegar White Vinegar?

The big question these days in green cleaning circles seems to be, "Is distilled vinegar white vinegar?" Yes, distilled vinegar and white vinegar are the same. The fact is, any type of vinegar can be distilled and is useful for medicinal, laboratory, cooking and cleaning purposes. Whether it is labeled distilled, white or distilled white - vinegar is comprised of water and about 5 to 8 percent acetic acid. Some folks seem to be confused because these terms appear on lists for making cleaning solutions and recipes.

There is a renewed interest in using vinegar as cleaner. This is due in part to the growing concern over the amount of toxic chemicals dumped into the environment every day. These dangerous chemicals are found in many commercially manufactured cleaning products. One out of every 10 reported toxic exposures at home are caused by these cleaning products. It's no wonder so many folks are looking for a safer, greener alternative to cleaning.

What is "Distilled"or "White" Vinegar

Vinegar is essentially a liquid produced when ethanol and acetic acid bacteria are fermented using various processes. Vinegar as cleaner is 100 percent natural, environmentally friendly and cheap. Currently, it is widely available from the local market and costs just a few dollars (USD). Vinegar has the power to cut through grease, dissolve minerals (like hard water stains) and eliminate soap scum. Due to the acetic acid in vinegar, it is also a great disinfectant that is able to deodorize as well as kill mold, bacteria and germs. Compared to most expensive retail cleaning products, vinegar costs just a few pennies per use.

The Many Uses of Vinegar as a Natural Cleaner

Distilled or white vinegar has so many uses that all of them could not be listed here. I remember that my granny used vinegar in many areas around her house including the laundry, in the kitchen and cleaning jewelry. In the bathroom, almost nothing works at getting rid of soap scum and hard water deposits like vinegar. Some folks would never think of pouring vinegar into their washing machine.

The fact is, about one-half to one cup of vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser or during the final rinse cycle will give you fresher smelling clothes. Vinegar also makes colors brighter and whites whiter. Vinegar also keeps the inner workings and hoses of the washing machine clean and clear. One word of caution - do not mix cleaners like vinegar and ammonia which can produce harmful fumes or vapors. Also, never use vinegar on marble surfaces as the acetic acid may damage the surface. Really, if making the change to clean greener, make sure to get the absolute best information on formulas, mixtures and recipes for green cleaning.

Making the Green Cleaning Transition Starts With Vinegar

Granny would say that vinegar as cleaner was probably the best way to get her household sparkling clean and fresh smelling.

Before you use one of those chemical cleaners for your housework, why not give vinegar a try? Make the decision to use green cleaning methods in your home. Start with small changes and that could have a significant, positive impact on our world and future generations for years to come. Making your own natural, environmentally friendly cleaning solutions makes sense in today's world and it is very economical.

There are many other recipes and formulas for green cleaning. These natural cleaning methods can be made from a few cheap, common items like salt, lemons, borax and baking soda.

How to Choose Hospitality Supplies for a Commercial Kitchen

When setting up a new kitchen from the ground up, the amount of shopping around, price comparisons and essentials buying can be completely overwhelming. How can you know what the right hospitality supplies are for your needs, and how do you choose which models or brands offer the best value? The answer to choosing quality and value obviously depends on the specific product you are searching for at the moment, but here we have collected a brief guide to help you pick the essential hospitality supplies for the commercial kitchen.

When stocking your kitchen you might turn to one of various catalogues and other resources available to help the restaurateur. These catalogues can be helpful but often have the motive of selling as many hospitality supplies as possible to the inexperienced chef or manager. So instead of relying completely on a salesperson's advice, you should meet with all the key players in the kitchen and plan ahead to determine which hospitality supplies are really necessary and warrant spending more of the budget on.

It is important to choose high quality, long lasting hospitality supplies in all areas of the kitchen, although this can be a significant problem if money is short at the beginning of your business endeavours. If you decide to restrict spending on key hospitality supplies such as pots and pans, utensils, kitchen knives and storage facilities you will only find yourself incurring escalated costs later on as more time is spent cleaning and maintaining the inefficient and faulty equipment.

As well as the cooking equipment essential to the efficient operation of your kitchen, there are other products to consider, such as chefs and wait staff uniforms, table settings and interior decorations. These additional items are vital to enticing customers into your restaurant and can make the difference between a banal and uninteresting meal and an experience your diners will rave about to their friends. Choosing these supplies requires a little more creativity and involves designing an entire image for your business and choosing products to fit and complement your style.

As they say, the devil is in the details, and it is important to choose each of your hospitality supplies very carefully to engineer the perfect experience for your customers. By thinking of small ways to improve your service you can instantly get ahead of the competition and build up a loyal following of diners. You could, for instance, purchase hospitality supplies such as a water filter and cooler for delicious complimentary water, delicate and beautiful crockery, thick linen napkins and heavy cutlery to build an air of elegance in your restaurant.

Safely Store Wool Long-Term

It's warming up outside and it is feeling like it's time to store away those heavy winter clothes and blankets. Before you seal your wool items away in a plastic space bag or container, you should read this. Wool, alpaca, mohair, and angora are actually animal hair. This is why they are so susceptible to becoming the feeding grounds for insect larvae. Properly preparing and storing these items will save you money, time, frustration and can even help you to avoid health problems.

Storing wool and other clothing in plastic doesn't allow them to breathe properly. If there is any moisture or humidity at all then the clothes will grow mold and mildew that can be hazardous to your health. This is why clothes that are sealed up smell musty when you take them out of storage. Storing clothing in breathable cotton or paper will allow air to circulate around them. Storing wool items in pillow cases or paper bags will also create a barrier that bugs and insects will not penetrate.

Insects are attracted to wool and other animal hair clothing. They lay their eggs there and then the larvae hatch and eat away at the fabric, ruining your wardrobe and blankets. People used to use moth balls to repel insects while their clothing was in storage, but we now know of the terrible side effects that moth ball vapors can have on human beings and pets. Using natural deterrents is far safer and just as effective.

One way to keep pests from being attracted to your clothing is to have it cleaned before you store it. Wool items should be dry cleaned to remove any body oils that may have come in contact with them. Human body oils are irresistible to moths and other insects. Wearing your suits or sweaters and then storing them will only attract more pests to your closet or storage areas.

Cedar is the simplest, safest way to repel unwanted pests away from your clothing. Using cedar clothes hangers for suits, coats and even blankets is enough to confuse and deter them. Cedar also absorbs moisture from the air, turning your closets into ideal places for storage. The fresh scent has been loved for hundreds of years and cedar actually deodorizes the area where it is kept. Using cedar products in your drawers and storage containers is an inexpensive way to keep everything safe.

Tips in Choosing a Carpet Cleaning Company

When you have carpet in your home or office, you will need to engage a professional carpet cleaning service to keep the carpet clean, smell fresh and hygienic. Carpet contains accumulated dirt particles, dust and micro organisms like dust mites that can potentially cause health hazards especially those who have inherent allergy reactions towards dust and dust mites. Common allergy reactions towards dirty and unhygienic carpet are asthma, rhinitis, eczema, blocked and runny nose, and more.

Because of the potential health risks when using dirty and unhygienic carpet, yearly deep carpet cleaning by the professionals is necessary to thoroughly remove embedded dirt particles and harmful micro organisms. Depending on the amount of traffic on the carpet, more treatments maybe required for carpets that are heavily used so that accumulated dirt can be removed more effectively.

Different types of carpet material and flooring require specific type of cleaning method. So, it is safer to ask your carpet installer or retailer for their recommended professional carpet cleaner or preferred cleaning method when planning to deep clean your carpet. If there is no recommendation given, it will be useful to study the various types of carpet cleaning methods provided by different carpet cleaning service providers in the market and then decide which will be the right one for your home or organization.

There are many types of carpet cleaning methods available in the market but the common ones, and more popular ones, found in Singapore and larger cities in Asia are carpet bonneting, hot water extraction / steam cleaning, and dry cleaning.

Carpet bonneting method is often seen in public area or common corridors in hotels and commercial buildings because carpet cleaning can be completed very quickly without causing much obstruction to human traffic. The downside of bonneting is carpet gets dirty again very fast because this method does not perform deep cleaning. As more carpet users complain about rapid resoiling after bonneting cleaning, more hotels and commercial facility management have chosen for other carpet cleaning methods that can produce more lasting results.

Hot water extraction or steam cleaning is a popular carpet cleaning method by carpet cleaners because it produces effective result. However, as this cleaning method would cause carpet to become wet and typically takes about 6 hours, if not longer, to dry in an air-conditioned environment, hot water extraction method is not suitable for raised platforms that have cables installed below the carpeted flooring. There are also some commercial activities that operate 24 hours every day in the year and whose office carpet cannot be evacuated for steam cleaning.

Dry carpet cleaning is an emerging popular choice as more have recognized the benefits and excellent results produced by this cleaning technology in the market. This cleaning method is typically performed by using biodegradable, sponge-like compounds, which will be brushed into the carpet to absorb dirt and micro organisms, without wetting the textile flooring. The soiled sponges would then be thoroughly removed at the end of the treatment. This cleaning technology, that became popular in Western countries in the 1980s, produces excellent cleaning results, minus the inconvenience and limitations when using wet carpet cleaning methods.

When selecting a carpet cleaner, there are important highlights to take note before making the final decision:

Do not go for cheapest quote but go for best service quality instead. Cheapest service typically does not produce the intended result effectively.Always ask for an onsite assessment and price quotation instead of getting quote via the phone base on the room size. A reputable and honest carpet cleaner would always prefer to assess the carpet condition and floor area before committing to a price proposal. Before signing on the service contract, it will be useful to find out what kind of cleaning products and technology used by the carpet cleaners and peruse the documented agreement that reflect the expected total cost and other terms and conditions carefully.

How Often Should A Carpet Be Cleaned?

Do you wait until the carpet starts to look dirty before calling a professional carpet cleaning company to perform 'restorative carpet cleaning?

Waiting for a carpet to look dirty before calling in the cleaners is what most people do but, is that leaving it too late?

When you leave a carpet so long that it looks dirty, lots of permanent damage has already occurred. You will have been walking on a carpet, with lots of trapped dirt, cutting away at the fibres, causing premature wear. This same dirt will have ground its way into the fibres and permanently changed the colour of the carpet.

Leaving the carpet to look dirty before cleaning means, your carpet has already worn down and permanently discoloured. How can you prevent this from happening?

Professional carpet cleaning is the only way to guarantee removal of deep down dirt, that causes wear and discolouration, but how often should you perform professional carpet cleaning?

If you leave carpet cleaning to once a year, you can expect the level of appearance to be as follows

(The values change depending on variables such as number of children, number of pets and frequency of vacuum maintenance.)

On average, you can expect a carpet to look 50% of what it did, when new, after just one year. By having professional carpet cleaners in, you can restore the appearance to 80% of what it was when new. Leave the carpet another year and, the carpet deteriorates to look 30% of what it looked like when new. Having your carpet professionally cleaned at the end of year 2 restores the look to 50% of what it looked like when new. At the end of year 3, the carpet falls to look 20% of what it did when new and professional cleaning of the carpet at the end of 3 years improves the look to 40% of what it did when new.

Have your carpet professionally cleaned once a year and, after 3 years you can expect it to look 40% of what it did when it was new!

Having carpet protection applied at the same time as professional carpet cleaning, improves the level of appearance significantly.

Can You Have Your Carpet Professionally Cleaned Every Month?

The level of appearance improves dramatically, if you can have your carpets professionally cleaned on a monthly basis. Have your carpet professionally cleaned once a Month and, after 3 years you can expect it to look 80% of what it did when it was new! In fact, the level of appearance only drops a small amount and, if the carpet also had carpet protector applied on a regular basis. The carpet would still look almost like new after 3 Years of use!

You now know that you should have your carpets cleaned as often as possible but, how often should your type of household have professional carpet cleaning?

Below, is a carpet cleaning maintenance plan, which is the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) guide to carpet cleaning frequencies. "The Clean Trust S100 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Carpet Cleaning".

The IICRC (or The Clean Trust as they are now known) is one of the world's foremost authority and examining board for professional carpet cleaners.

When looking at the following carpet cleaning frequency guide, please consider factors such as:-

Amount of trafficSoil levelsVacuuming schedulesSpot cleaning methodsProfessional periodic cleaning frequencyRestorative professional carpet cleaning

Please note: Follow the carpet manufacturers cleaning schedule to maintain your warranty.

Carpet Cleaning Maintenance Plan

Should your household have...

Light Soiling

Vacuum once a weekSpot clean as and when requiredProfessionally clean 'tracking areas' every 12-18 MonthsRestore - Professionally clean all areas every 2 Years or as manufacturer's warranty

Normal Soiling (families with children or elderly staying at home)

Vacuum twice per weekSpot clean as and when requiredProfessionally clean 'tracking areas' every 6-12 MonthsRestore - Professionally clean all areas annually

I hope this information has helped you understand the necessity for regular carpet cleaning, so that you can keep your carpet looking good for many more years to come, compared to not having carpet professionally cleaned.

Do not let your carpet look dirty before calling a professional carpet cleaner. But, do have your carpet cleaned as often as possible.Have carpet protector applied often, to extend the time your carpet keeps looking good.

Getting Rid of Mold and Mildew in Your Home

Mildew is the term given to various mold and fungi accumulation. It usually grows on a flat and moist surface. It is usually found in bathtubs, showers, attic, basement, curtains, leather couches, window sills, and many more. It is a bad sign if you see growing molds in your home. It signifies that there is imbalance. Mildew may damage the surface where it is growing through decomposition and staining. It can also be harmful to the health due to the spores it builds. Do not withstand the fact that it is not pleasing to look at and can give a bad smell in the house. There are lots of reasons why you should eliminate mold and mildew in your house. Removing the mold and mildew should be your first step followed by repairing the damage done, and finally, keeping your home free from mold and mildew.

How to remove and control mold build up:

Mold can grow in winter and summer months. During winter, the air in the house is moist which can result to mold accumulation. On summer months, mold still grows because of the high humidity level. You should keep your home free from mold anytime of the month by doing preventive guidelines.
Clean your bathroom. Mold grows tremendously in bathrooms. One best substance to use in cleaning molds in the bathroom is the vinegar. Spray or sprinkle vinegar in areas that are more likely to accumulate molds. These areas include under your faucet, bathroom shower curtains, tile grouts in the floor, and walls near the sink. You can also mop your floor with water and vinegar.
Clean other parts of your home. Your kitchen is also another favorite spot of molds. Food leftovers, gloomy spaces in the cupboards, dirt and oil spills during and after cooking and moisture on the tile surface are all causes of molds in the kitchen. Spray your dish drier and chopping board with vinegar and anything that have contact with food. Do these regularly to prevent bacteria and mold build up.
Use air conditioner during summer when it is humid and hot outside. Humidity is one factor for growing molds. Dust mites also grow on humid season. It is said that 65% to 70% of humid is essential for a growing mold. Using air conditioner doe not only give you cool air but also prevents mold as well. Maintain a temperature of 30% to 50% to ensure that mold will not grow anywhere in your home.
During winter where it is very cold, mold may still develop. Again, maintain a temperature of 30% to 50%. You may use a dehumidifier if you have one at home.
Carpets may increase the risk of developing molds in your house because they are susceptible to dirt and moisture. It can also bring in fleas and dust mites. You can either take off your carpet to avoid these problems or clean it with baking soda regularly.

How to remove mildew:

Mold and mildew are quite the same and because of this, the method of preventing them is quite the same also.
Avoid moisture in your home. Extreme moisture can not only cause mildew, it can also damage your structure especially wood and drywall materials. To avoid too much moist in your home, fix leaking faucets or sink. Check your pipes if there are broken lines. Use air conditioners and dehumidifiers as needed. Maintain the right temperature all over the house including the basement and attic.
Remove anything that was damaged by mildew. If something has been infested by mildew, take it as a whole right away. If the damaged thing is not removed, the mildew will further develop. Be careful in removing the object to prevent you from inhaling the spores of the mildew.
Clean and dry the surfaces in the house. Ensure that every part of the house is clean most importantly the bathroom and the kitchen where moist and dirt are always present. After cleaning the whole house, dry the surfaces to avoid moisture. Ensure also that there is proper ventilation all over the house to maintain the right temperature all throughout the year.

Carpet Cleaning On Your Own - Are You Sure It's A Good Idea?

If you have a lot of carpets at home then you will have to give the subject of carpet cleaning some thought. You definitely have to ensure that they are kept as clean as possible and this will only happen if you have a regular schedule for cleaning them. If your rugs and other floor coverings are not cleaned well then there is a chance that they will begin to harbor fungus and molds. They will also smell a lot.

The problem is that carpet cleaning is a very cumbersome job especially if you have quite a few of them at home. You need to go over every part of them carefully in order to remove ingrained dirt. You also need to wash them regularly in order to get them as clean as possible. This strenuous job is generally beyond the capabilities of most people which is why it is a good idea for you to get professional help instead.

A professional carpet cleaner will ensure that all dirt is removed from the rugs. In fact, the cleaners will have detailed knowledge about how exactly to get rid of specific kinds of dirt. If there is dust on the rugs then it generally needs to be vacuumed out. Grease or food stains need to be cleaned with special detergents. Once the rugs are cleaned well with water then they need to be dried properly so that there is no chance of them attracting mold.

Professional carpet cleaning can be quite expensive especially if you have a large number of these rugs to get cleaned. This could be one reason why you might want to clean them yourself even though it will take a lot of effort on your part. However, there are certain steps you could take to bring the cost down of cleaning the carpets and can therefore afford to get professional help for your floor coverings.

You will be very glad to have clean carpets at home because they will smell and look very good. They will also last very long since it is a well-known fact that the presence of dirt particles will cut the fibers of the carpet, leading to holes in them in the long term. All you have to therefore do is identify a really good company that will clean your carpets for you at a very reasonable price so that you don't have to do it yourself.

Butcher Chopping Block Maintenance: How to Clean and Oil in Five Easy Steps

Wooden counter tops add warmth and beauty to any kitchen. Unlike other trendy counter top surfaces, wooden counter tops are timeless and never go out of style. They also add functional value to a kitchen that appeals to chefs and foodies. However, they are not completely care free. They need to be kept clean and sealed in order to maintain the surface. Proper maintenance will not only lengthen the life of your counter top, but will keep it hygienic. Five easy steps for maintaining all of your wooden cutting surfaces, including counter tops and chopping blocks are listed below.

You will need:

Dish detergent

Scrubby sponge

White vinegar

Either lemon juice and salt Or water and baking soda

Mineral oil

Step one - Clean.

Cleaning the board with warm soapy water and a scrubbing sponge will get off any visible debris and will remove a small amount of oil from the board. Use warm water and scrub gently. You aren't trying to sanitize with this step so don't use hot water. Hot water is unnecessarily aggressive and will damage the board over time. Rinse all of the soap off when the surface is clean.

A word of caution - do not submerge portable boards in water. Water will soak into the wood fibers causing the wood to swell and warp. This breaks the glue bond in the lamination. Then as the wood dries, it cracks.

Step two - Sanitize.

Sanitize your butcher board by wiping it down with full strength white vinegar. Why vinegar? Vinegar is an effective disinfectant against common kitchen bugs such as e.coli, staphylococcus, and salmonella. Vinegar is not damaging to the wood fibers like chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach is corrosive and it's effects are accumulative. Over time it changes the color of the wood and it breaks down the lignan (the natural glue between the fibers). The wood will look ashy even after it is oiled and the fibers will have microscopic tatters for bacteria to hide in. It's a good idea to keep a spray bottle of vinegar handy to use as a regular sanitizer for your wooden cutting surfaces.

I use vinegar and air drying to sanitize my wooden counter tops and it works great. However, if you need extra assurances, you can allow your butcher board to dry after the vinegar treatment, then wipe it down with 3% hydrogen peroxide.

After sanitizing, you can move to steps four and five, allowing the board to dry and then oiling it. Or you can do some additional deep cleaning as in step three if you have a heavy build up of oils, odors, or stains.

Step three - Deep Cleaning

Make a paste of salt and lemon juice OR water and baking soda. Using a scrubby sponge, lightly swirl the paste around focusing on stains if you have any. This paste mixture will lightly strip away old oils. It will also deodorize the wood and lighten stains. Both lemon juice and baking soda are aggressive cleaners so don't allow them to just sit on the board for hours. Just gently scrub the paste around for a few minutes and rinse it completely away when you are done.

Step four - Dry

Allow block to dry completely....over night is best. A dry environment is the best defense against bacteria, mold and virus. Allowing the board to dry completely before oiling it helps to lock moisture OUT rather than sealing it in. Also, the dryer the wood is, the more easily it will soak up oil.

Before you oil your butcher board look it over. If you still have stains use a sanding block to remove light stains or use a palm sander with a fine grit paper to sand down the entire board.

Step five - Seal with oil

Oil your butcher board. Oiling your wooden counter tops and cutting boards helps to protect the wood from damage and keeps the surface hygienic. The oil creates a water resistant barrier. It keeps the wood dry and keeps bacteria out. The best oil to use is food grade mineral oil as it will not go rancid the way vegetable based oils will. This can be found in the laxative department of your local drug store or you may find it also at your local hardware store. Just pour a little onto the board and rub it in with your clean hands or use a clean lint free rag. If you really want to pump up the water resistance of your oil, you can warm it and add bees wax or paraffin to it. Use a ratio of one part wax to nine parts oil. When this oil has soaked into your wood, it will leave behind a thin waxy layer that is even more water resistant!

Every type of counter top needs basic maintenance. Granite needs polishing. The grout in a tile counter top needs scrubbing. A wooden counter top or butcher chopping block needs to be cleaned and oiled. With a little bit of care your wooden cutting surfaces can last life times and add functional value to your kitchen.

The feature of tri-mode capability for instance, allows the machine to be used as a steam, cold water, and hot water pressure washer. Thus, you can enjoy the benefits of all the three features in one single electric pressure washer.

Automatic Shutoff Technology - An Advanced Feature that Eases Cleaning Tasks
High pressure washers from the best suppliers in business come with a two-gun feature that allows two operators to use the machine simultaneously. This helps in reducing the cleaning time by half. There are other highly useful features such as automatic shut off. This is a unique aspect of industrial pressure washing machines that run on electricity.

Automatic shut off allows operators to shut off or pause the operation of the high pressure washing machines without having to reach the water supply source or the power supply outlet. This can prove to be highly convenient and time saving for those using industrial pressure cleaners. Industrial cleaning involves covering large areas in minimum of time and with a higher degree of convenience. These advanced cleaning machines can prove to be as effective as gas pressure washers when it comes to industrial cleaning.

While gas pressure washers too, can be used as hot water pressure washer, operators and homeowners find it easy and affordable to use an electric pressure cleaner with tri mode capabilities for the same applications because of the low cost and high convenience factors.

Home Cleaning Service For Chores You Don't Want To Do

It can be hard to find the time in the course of your busy day to address some of the domestic concerns of owning a house. At the end of a long day of work the last thing you want to do is to come back to your place and have to clean and straighten up everything. While it can be hard to find time to do it, there is no denying the fact that it needs to be done. Fortunately, for those with busy lives who are in need of assistance there are home cleaning service professionals who are happy to come out and do the menial tasks that are so often overlooked.

Home cleaning service allows property owners to feel at ease and comfortable in their space. A clutter free and dirt free living area offers peace of mind, but on the other hand when things are messy it can be stressful. These companies are skilled at coming in while you are away at work and doing all the little chores that are so hard to schedule time for. They will scrub out bathroom walls and sinks and also wash kitchen counters and stovetops. They will sweep and mop the floors and perform deodorizing tasks. When a person gets come back everything will be washed and smell fresh. This allows a person to simply enjoy their space in the evening and not worry about trying to stay abreast of domestic needs.

The trick to finding a home cleaning service to offer this incredible assistance is that it is difficult to find someone who can be trusted to be alone in the house during the day. This is a most sacred space and when a stranger is there alone it can be disconcerting. By hiring a professional company you get the added protection of knowing that a larger organization is standing behind the trustworthiness of a person. Hiring a local person does not assure this protection.

On the other hand while a larger home cleaning Service Company is more likely to protect a person against theft or damage, they have their drawbacks as well. They are generally more expensive for the same work and they also do not always send the same people to the house every week. That means that special requests or preferences may go unheeded. With a local person you have the benefit of dealing with the same person every time and you can instruct them to your needs and wants as necessary.

Home cleaning service from a professional company or a local contractor gives peace of mind and comfort while offering a much-needed service. Each have their benefits but both will give a person the satisfaction of knowing that their house will be in order when they return.

Five Tips To Consider When Searching For A House Cleaning Company

Determine the Level of Service You Need

Before you search for a cleaning company, decide what kind of assistance you need. Do you require a one-time cleaning before a big event, a move-in or move-out cleaning, or do you want a regular service schedule of weekly, biweekly, monthly, or bimonthly cleanings? Knowing these details before you look online or offline allows you to weed out those companies that are not able to offer what you need.

Know Service Options Available

Once you've determined what type of cleaning you want, search for companies that offer the widest variety of options. Clearing clutter is generally not in their purview, but many companies offer services such as window cleaning or floor polishing on an as-needed basis.

In this case, it may be important to make sure the crew selected is English-speaking. Communication is very important when you have detailed instructions to relay. For instance, if you have allergies and need the crew to use or to avoid certain cleaners or you have areas that require special treatment, you want to be assured that your directions are clearly understood and any questions are easily conveyed.

Do They Have Insurance?

Make sure that the company you are considering has employees that are bonded and insured. It is also wise to determine if the company carries worker's compensation or general liability insurance. If a house cleaner accidentally slips and falls, you want to have the peace of mind that you won't end up in a lawsuit. Most legitimate companies possess all of these requirements.

Ensuring Security

Many people are not home when their houses are being cleaned, so keys must be given to the cleaning company to allow employees access when you are away. It is important to know how the company safeguards these keys. For example, knowing that the keys are coded instead of labeled with a name and address and that they are kept locked away when not in use is a good practice, and one that shows the company has a commitment to your security.

References

Finally, legitimate companies usually offer testimonials online and allow you to speak with current or past customers upon request. Speaking with existing clients is preferred, as you can get an idea of the company's ongoing practices and policies. Most reputable house cleaners are eager to share customer feedback with potential clients with the hope of earning their business.

From the Mouths of Maids: Health Risks of a Messy Home

When life gets busy and hectic, parts of a person's normal routine have to be skimped on. There are only so many hours in a day, and even the most organized have to cut some corners now and again. Often times the chores around the home are the first to be neglected, especially without the help of maids. Dishes pile up in the sink and laundry goes unattended when things get too fast paced. While a little untidiness can be harmless, recent studies show that a messy or dirty household can negatively affect the health of you and your family.

For some, a cluttered house can lead to stress. When clothes are scattered about the floor and dishes are piled on the kitchen counter, life at home seems a little more chaotic. Studies have shown that high blood pressure is linked to individuals whose homes have become domestic disaster areas. Patients surveyed were found to have increased stress levels and blood pressure, but not while at home. Most of the patients' stress actually came from anticipating doing the cleaning and not having the time to do so. By setting aside a little extra time for cleaning or enlisting the help of maids, high-strung individuals can eliminate one of the stressors that leads them to discomfort.

Too much clutter around the house also creates falling hazards. Households with children or elderly are especially at risk, though an unlucky person of any age could fall victim to a stray object in the dark at night. If your house has multiple stories a staircase can become a serious danger when left unattended to. Confining your dirty clothes to a laundry hamper can easily keep your floor space clear, and a little extra time spent putting your groceries or purchases when you get home will go a long way. Spend some time determining where all of your possessions belong. A little organization ahead of time means that you won't have to decide what to do about your clutter when you're low on time. Bringing maids in for a weekly visit can also keep your belongings neatly tucked away and walking spaces open.

Of course, a house left unattended to is a safe haven for germs. Food left out after meals and uncollected garbage are breeding grounds for harmful bacteria that cause sickness. Without the regular cleaning and upkeep that maids are used to, the surfaces and basins in your home will turn against you. Dishes left in sinks are prone to growing colonies of E. coli and salmonella, while infectious bacteria like staphylococcus are fond of bathtubs. These infections aren't hard to prevent, but many Americans don't realize the danger because these threats are invisible.

An unkempt home can cause health risks of all kinds, but a little extra time or planning can go a long way in bringing peace to your hectic life. A little planning for your home's organization and perhaps some help from a few maids will keep you feeling better and able to focus on what's most important in your life.

How to Get Rid of Clutter on Tables and Counters to Live an Organized and Decluttered Lifestyle

Flat surfaces can be a blessing and a curse. Isn't it nice to see a cleaned off table - just think of all the things we could do; we could set the table for a big family meal, we could sit and use it for crafts, we could let children use it for their homework or drawings, there are so many possibilities! Unfortunately as soon as we have a flat surface cleared we usually start putting things back onto it. It's almost like the side table, kitchen counter, entryway table, coffee table, bathroom counter, and every other flat surface has a clutter magnet on it! There's no arguing here - keeping these surfaces clear is tough for anyone. A good way to deal with these is to go through the normal decluttering process and get to the clean surface. Once you have done that take a look at what you want and what you like on that surface. Does it have a lamp that you use? Is there a picture that you want to display? Figure out what you like the best and how many items this is - we want to limit the number to something reasonable, but we also want to be comfortable with what we choose. Once we have this figured out you will know how many things should be there. When you start to see how this can help you maintain a decluttered environment this should become second nature.

If we let some things sneak back onto a surface, don't worry too much about it. Set a time when you will go over the area and pick things up and put them back where they belong. We can't have a spotless and totally organized house one hundred percent of the time - we would go crazy even trying! The idea is to get used to regularly keeping things under control. This might mean putting your books away every night, cleaning up when you get home from work, or taking Saturday afternoon to pick up after yourself. It is certainly a give and take - you don't want to spend so much time picking up that you start hating spending the time doing it, but you don't want to wait so long that it becomes a huge project again! We want to find what works best for ourselves. It takes time and a little trial and error. After a few weeks it should be fairly evident what works best for you. If by the end of three weeks you can't seem to get a good system going on a regular schedule I suggest setting aside five or ten minutes three nights a week to pick up and clean off your surfaces. Write them down, make a checklist, or set an alarm - just make sure that you are following through and sticking to a schedule. It is like many other habits - you have to keep doing them for it to be effective, the first few weeks can be the most trying but it does become much easier after that.

A Guide to Carpet Steam Cleaning

Carpets are a lot of work to take care of. This is because stuff gets spilled on them, people walk through the house with dirty shoes on and there seems to be pet hair everywhere. Even though you vacuum your carpets on a regular basis, it just really isn't enough because it doesn't get the carpet clean. Machines that clean floor tapestry are made to take away tough stains as well as dirt. They can also take away allergens including mold and pet dander. Carpet steam cleaning machines kill microorganisms which vacuums do not do. You can also hire a good carpet steam cleaning company help you clean your floors.

These cleaners come in two different styles. One cleans with humidity while the other uses dry heat. The one that uses humidity will give off more vapors but the water will not boil. Since it is made to hold more water, it will give off more humidity. The other style will boil the water which produces an extremely hot vapor.

Before you decide to purchase a carpeting machine, you need to first know what your needs are as far as a machine. Many people like the dry steam method because it does not leave so much moisture on the floor tapestry. This results in less drying time. Also with the dry vapor, you can also use it on furniture, ceilings, hardwood floors and tiled floors.

There are several benefits to using a vapor machine. First they are eco friendly because there are no chemicals used in the machine. All you are using is water and heat to clean your carpeting. Another benefit of using one of these machines is that it will save you money because you don't need to buy any supplies such as chemicals. These machines get rid of allergens including bacteria, mold as well as dust mites. This in turn means better air quality for you and your family. Plus it gets rid of allergens which can prevent people in your home from suffering from some conditions such as allergies and asthma.

You need to be sure to tell everyone in the house not to step on your carpet immediately after cleaning. You need to wait until it is completely dry before anyone is allowed to walk on it. It is recommended that you do one room at a time so people in the household will have somewhere to go while each room dries. It is important to read the manual and to not use the machine on surfaces that are not listed in your manual. If you use the machine on other surfaces that are not listed in your manual, it can cause serious damage not only to the surfaces but to the machine as well. It is important to keep kids away from the machine when you are using it in order to avoid accidental burning.

These vapor machines can help your carpet appear brand-new. Since they sanitize and deodorize your carpeting, your home will smell amazing. If you are not comfortable or simply don't have the time to clean your carpet yourself, you could just hire a good carpet steam cleaning service.

Condense the Mess in the Laundry Room With These Tips

There is nothing more discouraging than a messy laundry room. Condensing the mess is a great step to making it a more pleasant task.

In the first place, laundry is a thankless task. After just one wearing, laundry is right back in the hamper waiting to be washed all over again. If you can make the laundry environment just a bit more appealing, you will find it less of chore. The secret is bringing some order to the laundry room.

Make more room

The first trick is to make more room in the laundry room. This means you need to make better use of the unused spaces. For example, most laundry rooms can make use of the space between the washer and the dryer. With as little as 8 inches, you can add a set of narrow wicker drawers that fit between the washer and dryer. These four graduated drawers hold fabric softener sheets, stain sticks and even your eye glasses so you can read the tags on clothing. The plastic front resembles hand-woven wicker. It measures 36 inches high, 19 inches deep and 8 inches wide.

With just about the same amount of space, you can add a roll-out laundry caddy that stores some taller items, like laundry detergent, fabric softener and the iron. The sturdy melamine caddy has three open shelves with raised side rails to keep the products in place. The caddy is set on dual track casters, so it easily rolls out and goes back in between the dryer and washer. It measures 31 inches high, 25 inches deep and 8 3/8 inches wide. Some assembly is required.

Hanging tricks

Sometimes the best way to get rid of clutter is to go up. The fold down overdoor laundry hanger gives you a closet where there is not one. It creates a place to hang clothing when it comes out of the dryer or if the laundry instructions recommend line drying. It is made with a locking hinge that supports 10 hangers. When it's not in use, simply fold it down and way. There is felt padding on the inside of the bracket so it won't scratch the surface and it fits over most doors.

A simple way to air dry your laundry is with a set of five hanging clips. Made to fit over a towel rod or wire shelving, these drip dry hanging clothespins let you air dry anything from delicates to towels to socks. Their no-slip teeth keep your clothes hung up and off the floor.

Laundry carts

If you have ever seen the laundry carts in a Laundromat and thought they would be useful at home, you are in luck. Laundry carts are available in everything from commercial size to personal butler size.

The laundry butler is compact enough to fit in the smallest laundry rooms. The chromed steel frame has 3-inch industrial wheels with double locks and a large basket to hold your laundry. You can hang wet or dry garments on the valet bar that rises above the basket. There is a bottom shelf underneath the basket that can store laundry soap and other supplies. It measures 67½ inches high, 24½ inches wide and more than 20 inches deep.

If you are looking for something with more storage space, consider the classic antique bronze laundry center with its three heavy duty, removable canvas laundry bags. It also comes with two bags - one for lingerie and one for sweaters. Hanging above the three laundry bags is a crossbar where you can hang the clothing you just ironed. There is also a high shelf for storing clean clothes or laundry accessories. The laundry center will roll across your home on smooth rolling casters with two locking wheels. The bronze finish on the steel frame is attractive enough you won't want to rush to put it away. It measures 72 inches high, 30 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

Extra space

If counter space is at a premium in your laundry room, then you probably could use some extra space where you can fold your laundry. This steel, rolling laundry station offers extra space and more. The cart's two shelves hold detergent, fabric softener, folded clothing and more. There is a slide-out wire basket that can hold small items, like stain sticks, clothes pins and scissors to clip loose threads. When closed, the melamine doors on top can be used to fold laundry. They open to reveal a removable canvas bag. All this rolls along on casters and measures 31 inches high, 26¼ inches wide and 18 inches deep.

Another easy way to increase space is with a wire shelf that mounts over the top of a washer or dryer. Measuring 26½ inches long and 10 inches wide, the vinyl coated shelf will easily hold detergent bottles and boxes.

Make laundry less of a chore by condensing the mess so you can focus on getting the wash done and getting back to your family.

How to Get the Most Out of Your House Cleaning Service

Anyone who has his or her home or apartment regularly cleaned by a professional service crew knows how nice it is not to do the tough cleaning. But a cleaning service isn't cheap, so it pays to know a few tricks to get the most out of your crew.

Most people do a little straightening up before the cleaners arrive, but it pays to do a little more. First, if you have not yet put jewelry, cash, and other valuables out of the way, then you need to do it right away. If you've done a thorough job screening your service, the risk of outright theft is probably low. Taking things out of sight will eliminate any problems or misunderstanding, all the more.

Also try and reduce clutter around the house before the cleaners come. Kid's toys or art projects on the counters, paperwork on the kitchen table, blow dryers, and even makeup on the bathroom sink all slow things down where cleaners will just take care of them. Take a moment and put them aside so that the team can get to every spot easily.

If you want hard-to-reach areas cleaned, like behind furniture and such, move items before the cleaners come. Provide a note to direct them what you want done. In the course of normal cleaning, most services do not move furniture or heavy objects.

Be specific about how you like things cleaned and what is important to you. Most services strive to do a good and thorough job, but everyone seems to have one cleaning pet peeve or a spot they like cleaned in a certain way. Instead of being frustrated, you need to be specific. Talk with the group supervisor and show to him or her specifically where or what it is you want done and its value to you. Most cleaners will gladly adapt their routine.

While it's not necessary to leave your house or apartment while the cleaners are there, try and stay out of the way. Most cleaners have a routine they follow, so try, and avoid redirecting them to other rooms or tasks. The same goes for kids and pets. With fewer disruptions, the cleaners will do a better job.

Try not to offer cleaners food or drink, or engage in some chit-chat. While you might feel this is a polite gesture, understand that the workers are there to do their job where they need to move on to the next client, in the most efficient means. Again, the fewer the disruptions, the better cleaners can be.

If you use the same group on a regular basis, don't forget to show your appreciation. This is especially important if you've asked them to do extra work. While tipping is not required, it is appreciated. Also, don't forget the end-of-year gratuities and thanks.

Lastly and most importantly, you need to keep up with the communication. If something is not being done the way you like it, provide constructive feedback right away. Cleaners rely on pointers where they want to keep their clients happy and satisfied with their work. That being said, if the same problems keep cropping up and the work isn't being done to your satisfaction, it may be time for you to look for a new provider.

A Guide to Mold Removal

Many homeowners often assume that they can remove the toxin on their own and that hiring a mold removal company to remove it for them will be a waste of money. In order to remove this allergen from the home properly, there are quite a few things that someone needs to know and be able to do if they want to do it in the safest manner possible.

There are many different types of mold that could be growing in a home. If someone tries to remove any of them him or herself without wearing any protection, they could potentially inhale spores into their lungs, which could lead to serious health issues. Removing mold in a home where a family is living could put not only the person that is removing the mold at risk, but also the rest of the family that is living in the home. The mold spores could easily get into the ventilation system and spread throughout the home, which could lead to serious illness for all family members who are exposed to the spores.

When looking for a company to come and handle the mold removal, it is important to find out about their certifications, their licensing, and their insurance coverage. In order for someone to be able to remove allergens legally from a home, they need to have the proper training. In the training, they have learned how to identify all of the different types, how each one will need to be removed from a home, and how to dispose of them properly after it has been removed. This training is essential as mold spores can remain in a home for a very long time. If it is not removed properly by the mold removal company that is hired, it could leave the family at risk.

After checking the company's credentials, someone will want to ask to speak with references from previous clients. If a company cannot provide references, someone should avoid hiring them for their mold removal needs. A legitimate company will be able to provide references for work that they have done and prove that they have the experience that is needed to do a good job. When speaking with references it is important to ask about the job that was done. Someone needs to find out if any damage was done to the house, if everything was properly disposed of when the job was complete and if it was removed in a timely manner. Someone will want to insure that other homeowners have had great experiences with the company before agreeing to allow them to remove the mold from their home. Before beginning the process, it is important for a homeowner to sign a contract with the company stating the set price that will be paid for the job upon completion. This will allow all parties involved to know what amount will be paid and that the business will not overcharge for the job upon completion.

How to Get the Most Value Out of Your Laundry Detergent

Shop with laundry detergent coupons

Whether you prefer to search through mailers and fliers on a weekly basis for coupons and mail in rebates or online at your favorite coupon website, there are numerous deals to find. Popular brands will routinely provide coupons and rebates for their various products. Often when a new product line is introduced, the manufacturer will offer some type of incentive to get you to try the new product out.

Buy in bulk

Wholesalers like Costco and Sam's Club will often sell bulk quantity detergents and cleaners, potentially saving you money. Make sure to compare the package size or the number of loads you can get from each container, both for powder and liquid detergents. Ultimately, you're looking for the lowest cost per unit or cost per load when you're trying to find the best deal.

Follow the detergent directions carefully

Even if you save a few bucks on your laundry detergent purchase, if you don't pay attention to amount you should be using per load, you're potentially using too much, which will ultimately cost you money. If a liquid detergent is supposed to be dispensed in 2 oz portions, but you don't bother to measure and end up using 3 oz at a time, you're wasting 50% of the product!

Buy only detergents are on sale

Depending on how retailers and grocery stores stock up on a particular brand or product line, they may eventually be in a position where they need to move product to make room for upcoming shipments of other goods. This means that the grocery store or shop might be offering up a sale to clear shelf space, which is a good time for you to consider make a purchase and stock up.

Search online auctions for potential deals on detergent

Sellers on eBay.com will offer up all kinds of stuff, including cleaning products and laundry detergents. Doing a quick search for your favorite brand names may reveal a good deal. Make sure to evaluate any potential shipping costs to determine if the overall purchase is a better deal than what you could get otherwise at your local grocery store.

Discount and Dollar Stores

Often times, these specialty retailers will have a batch of detergent that they buy cheap from some other retailer and in term are able to offer you the consumer low prices. Check around to see what kinds of deals are out there. Even ask the shop keepers to see if they regularly get detergents to sell.

5 Ways to Cut Your Household Costs - Laundry

In this age of austerity, it is common sense to look at ways to reduce our household expenditure and energy consumption. While doing the laundry is an essential chore, there is no reason it has to be more expensive than necessary. Here are five tried and tested ways to cut laundry costs.

Wash at lower temperatures

In the normal scheme of things, it's unnecessary to wash all items at high temperatures. Some people prefer to wash sheets and towels at 60 C, but most items of clothing can be washed at lower temperatures. Even if you wash at a warm temperature, you can use a cold rinse which will still significantly cut back on energy consumption. Experts advise that a 30 C cycle saves 40% more energy than a 40 C cycle. Be aware that washing at lower temperatures may not be as effective at stain removal, so using a cold water detergent is advisable.

Use cheaper detergents

There's no reason to use expensive branded products when according to several industry experts store branded detergents are just as effective. It's easy to become complacent when choosing products and go with what we've always used or known, but shopping around and comparing price per wash really does pay off when it comes to laundry detergents. So try a cheaper detergent and find yourself pleasantly surprised by the savings you could make.

Use less detergent

When comparing that price per wash, be aware that you don't need to use as much detergent as manufacturers' recommend! Blindly following instructions without questioning doesn't always pay off, and this is one excellent example. Manufacturers give us guidelines on how much detergent to use to sell more product, when in reality half the amount will clean as effectively. Not only does this save you money, but experts point out that using excessive amounts of detergent can actually damage your clothing causing the fibres to hold on to dirt.

Wash a full load

It may sound like common sense, but washing a full load each time instead of two half loads will make significant savings in energy and water consumption and therefore utility bills. Experts advise that a full load can use 25% to 50% less energy than two half loads. Be careful not to overload your washing machine however as this will prevent effective cleaning and could damage the machine.

Use an energy efficient washing machine

By law, all new washing machines must display a European Energy Label which gives information about the energy efficiency of the appliance. Ratings range from A+++ to G, with A+++ the most energy efficient and G the least. These labels also give more detailed information on the energy consumption per cycle, as well as information on load capacity, washing performance, spin drying performance and noise levels for both wash and spin cycles. It's well worth giving these labels consideration when buying a new appliance as they could end up saving you significant amounts of money over its lifetime, as well as cutting down on carbon dioxide emissions.

You may also want to look out for the European Ecolabel, a voluntary label that only the best washing machines meeting strict criteria can carry. These criteria include having better energy consumption than the European Energy Label rating A, water consumption of less than 12 litres per kilogram laundry, and noise levels of less than 56 decibels during washing and 76 decibels during spinning.

Five Tips in Finding a Good House Cleaning Service

Finding a good and trustworthy house cleaning service can sometimes be difficult. Generally, one finds a house cleaner from a friend, a friend of a friend, or someone who knows where these good services are found. Well, you get the picture. And it always seems like the first time the new cleaning service cleans, the house looks perfect. Then there are the odd occasions when the quality can go down. Here are some tips to help you find good service, which ensures that they keep doing the job you want.

Tip One: Don't just go with the first company you meet. For some reason, many people are uncomfortable interviewing service workers. It feels very personal, especially if you're meeting the actual person who may be cleaning your home or apartment. Even if you've gotten a stellar recommendation from someone you absolutely know and trust, you still need to meet and interview at least two firms or individuals. Ask how long they've been in the business, how many people they have cleaned for and how were they hired by the people they work with.

Tip Two: Get four references, and make sure you call them. This is another one of those things that we sometimes feel is too much work to do, but it really is crucial. When speaking to the person, you need to be specific in your questions, such as why would you recommend this person? This question form will force them to give you reasons. The other key question to ask is what would be the one thing that you would change about the way they clean your home? This gives the individual the opportunity to be critical without being negative. Sometimes, this is the most enlightening part of the conversation.

Tip Three: Give the firm a try. Now this may seem like a waste of time. Won't they do their very best job on this first cleaning? Yes, they should, as you can sense what their very best is. If after this first cleaning you find there are problem areas, then they're probably not the firm for you.

Tip Four: At the first cleaning, be sure to do a walk through with the service to find out what they use or recommend on different surfaces. Although most companies use similar products, it is good to let them know of special requests ahead of time. This little walk around could also tell if the person does not seem to know what to use. It can be an indicator of inexperience or lack of attention to detail.

Tip Five: Be critical. When reviewing the cleaning work, make note of anything you find unacceptable or uncertain. Again, don't be shy about giving honest feedback. Most people have little individual pet peeves regarding their house cleaning, so these need to be addressed. If the service doesn't consistently measure up, move on. A good, conscientious service will know what is important to their customers where they will make sure that those things are consistently handled.

Keep these tips in mind when hiring and you'll have a much better chance of getting a quality cleaning service.

Simple Carpet Maintenance - Take Your Shoes Off in the House!

I get asked all the time by my clients about ways to maintain their carpets at home. There's an EASY answer to this question. We're not talking about stain removing techniques (although that's important), we're not recommending the proper vacuum cleaner (which I will discuss in an upcoming blog), but it's a very simple preventative measure. Take your shoes off before you walk in your home! There are very simple reasons why taking your shoes off upon entering you home is crucial to the cleanliness and longevity of your carpet.

Dirt, asphalt, pesticides, and all sorts of bacteria and toxins are living on the bottoms of your shoes. Those can easily be tracked into your home onto your carpet. *Think of your child playing on the floor - not a good vision, huh?

Aside from contaminates on the soles of your shoes being tracked into your home, another reason you should NOT wear your shoes in the house is because dirty shoes can cause those darker pathways to appear around where you walk the most. You've seen them- Those dark paths from one door to another door... Those dark paths are affectionately known as traffic areas. Most think that traffic areas are mainly dirt that deposits on in the carpet from repeated use. That's only partially correct... Traffic areas are in part, abrasions within your carpet fibers. Think about this... 90% of carpeting today is made from synthetic fiber. Synthetic fibers are mostly derived from plastic. Ask yourself this question... What happens to a plastic bottle when you continually rub dirt on the clear plastic? Yep, the plastic becomes muddy in appearance (even if it's perfectly clean) due to abrasions in the plastic. That's exactly what happens in the traffic areas of your home. Shoes will grind in dirt and debris into the carpet fibers, giving it a dull and dark appearance. No amount of cleaning will improve the look of those carpet fibers.

By NOT wearing shoes in your home, significantly decreases the traffic area affect and ultimately keep your carpets looking new, longer.

So... this is your excuse to find the most comfy bunny slippers that you can find and wear them proudly (inside of your home, of course...).

If you insist on wearing shoes inside the home, please at take this advice... Go to your local retailer and grab a few doorway entry mats. Place those mats at every point of entry into your home. Last, but not least; use them!

Stay Green Folks!

Pipes and Home Cleaning 101

In order for you to stop having to clean your drains so much, you need to be careful about what you put down there. Some people are putting grease, hair and coffee grounds into the pipes. Add soap scum to this and you have not only a messy pipe system but a clogged one as well. Cooking grease should be put into a metal or plastic container and then disposed of in the trash can. Some communities also have special instructions regarding how to dispose of oil properly. Coffee grounds can either be thrown in the trash or used as mulch for your garden. You can purchase a drain holder that covers the drain and eliminate the problem of hair and soap scum blockages.

You should clean the pipes on a regular basis. This will help keep them running normally and will stop any nasty odors from developing. One home cleaning tip is to include running the hot water after each time you use the sink. Hot water will loosen up any clogs and make the pipes run smoothly. You can also use baking soda in the drain and then run some hot water after pouring it in the pipes to get rid of any offending odors. Another great method to clean your pipes is to empty a cup of vinegar down the drain and allow it to set for half an hour. Then turn on the hot water. Vinegar contains naturally occurring acid which helps to loosen up any sludge in your pipes.

If you find that your pipes are getting clogged on a regular basis, there are some things you can do to prevent this. In fact this little home cleaning trick works on pipes, sinks and showers. Take a half a cup of baking soda, a half a cup of salt, a half a cup of vinegar and 2 quarts of boiling water. Just before turning in for the night, pour the solution of salt and baking soda down the drain. Then add the vinegar and let it sit for about a minute. Then add the 2 quarts of boiling water. If your sink has a garbage disposal, there is another trick that you can try. Take an ice cube tray and fill it half vinegar and half water. You need to have the water because vinegar by itself will not freeze. Be sure to let everyone in the household know that certain trays have vinegar in them. Once the trays of vinegar ice are frozen, turn on your garbage disposal and add the ice cubes. Vinegar is an acid which is great for cleaning garbage disposal as well as the pipes. Getting Rid of Orange Juice Stains From Your Carpet

It is almost impossible to make a list of U.S.A's favorite beverages without naming orange juice in the first five. Orange juice is one of the most delicious, most nourishing and most refreshing drinks you may ever come across. This is because the orange provides consumers with loads of vitamin C that are really good for human health. With the daily increased rate of the consumption of orange juice, it is but normal to consider that the health benefits of orange juice are known by many people across the globe. Despite all the virtues of the orange juice to the human system, accidents during handling are generally bound to occur. Juice could get spilled on the floor, the table or in the worst case scenario on your carpet.

Needless to say an orange stain is a pain in the neck. It is not easy to get rid of such spills as they leave quite difficult stains that need careful handling, preferably by a professional. Orange juice can be very unsightly and difficult to remove when it lands on a carpet that has a light color. However, there are certain tips any one can use to immediately treat a carpet that has been stained by orange juice.

To begin, you would want to get rid of the excess orange juice that may have set into the fabrics of the carpet. This first step will keep the spill from sinking deeper into the fabrics of the carpet and causing any unpleasant odor. To soak out this juice, you would need to make use of paper towel or a neat piece of cloth to blot it out. If you waste any time before applying this tip, the spill will soak deep into the carpet fabrics and this would make it more difficult to clean the carpet.

Secondly, after blotting out all excess juice from the area of the carpet that was spilled, you will then get a carpet cleaning product that you like. The cleaning chemical will be used to get rid of the stain that has probably set in on the surface of the carpet. Needless to say the market is jam-packed with carpet cleaning products that you may make a choice from. Commercial cleaning products are found in stores and are easily affordable. The only precaution for you to take would be to ensure that you are choosing a product that works positively on your type of carpet. This should help prevent carpet damage and potential accidents during the cleaning process.

To add, you would want to spray the cleaning product on the area that has the stain and then use the aforementioned paper towel or cloth to blot out the stain. It is totally forbidden to rub the area affected by the stain as this will spread the stain on the carpet. Simply do a neat blotting job starting from the outside going towards the inside.

Furthermore, you would want to do this move as many times as possible until the spill is completely removed. This method actually takes some patience as the first cleaning will not completely get rid of the stain. You simply have to repeat the earlier steps to get better results or until you see that every inch of the stained area is clean.

Last but not least, you should end the session by rinsing the area with some clear water. This last step prevents the accumulation of residue and the attraction of other dirt particles onto the carpet.

Indeed, one is no longer obliged to be strained by orange juice spills as in days past. The steps listed and explained in this article should make it very easy to get rid of an orange juice stain on your carpet.

Clean Air Means Less House Cleaning and Dusting? Yep, Sure Does!

Does it seem like you're cleaning all the time? And every time you turn around, there's another layer of dust on that piece of furniture? Time for carpet cleaning...again?! Does house cleaning ever end??!!

Let's face it. Very few of us have time to constantly clean and dust. We're just too busy! Plus, in this economy, most of us don't have the extra money for house cleaning services, either! Where does this dust and dirt come from anyway?

Well, it's a combination of stuff we track in from outside, the dust from your ducts / air conditioner vents, and tiny particles that are released when our hands and feet rub across furniture, bedding, carpets, etc. The air that's moving inside the room picks up the particles and those particles settle on everything, and there you go-more dusting and cleaning to do. Ugh.

You mean having clean air can really help us keep up with our fast-paced lives, reduce house cleaning time and the cost of cleaning supplies? Absolutely. It just makes sense. If you can remove the particles from the air, then there will be less to settle and accumulate-in the corners, and in our noses! And you'll get the added benefit of feeling better, with less sneezing and coughing, or even asthma attacks. Don't forget, dust is very dirty stuff, composed of dirt, dead skin cells, dust mite/insect parts, pet dander, bacteria, viruses, pollen, mold spores and more. In a month or so, you'll be happy to notice that you just aren't buying as much cleaning supplies, cleaning services, Swiffer duster refills, carpet cleaning--and probably less allergy medications!

So how do we do clean up the air? All you need is a 1) a good allergy rated filter in your home a/c system, 1500 rating or higher, and 2) get a quality air purifier that can handle the amount of air in your home or room, and has a true HEPA filter, which will remove 99.97% or higher of the particles floating around. Be sure to change the air filter in your home at least every 3 months, and the HEPA filter in your air purifier as indicated by the manufacturer. And the air purifier will actually extend the life of the home air filter, too, so that's another cost reduction!

One very good air purifier we found that is very good for getting rid of dust is the Blueair 403 This unit features durable steel construction, a powerful HEPA filter that removes up to 99.99% of particles, healthy negative ions to further purify the air, and an available lifetime warranty. This will handle rooms 375 square feet and smaller.

For larger spaces, up to 1500 square feet, the Aller Air 5000 Exec works very well. This air purifier features a true HEPA filter, a pre-filter, and a full 18 pounds of activated carbon to remove chemical vapors and odors-vapors and odors that cause allergy attacks, headaches, and more! Got headaches that you can't put your finger on? It really could be in the air!

Both of these air purifiers will definitely reduce the need for house cleaning and dusting, and leave you more time for the important things like family and fun times.

As always, if you have any questions, give us a call at 1-800-701-2513. The expert staff at Air Purifiers and Cleaners.com is standing by to help.

Getting Professionals for Your Window Cleaning

Any business or office space with large windows should consider hiring professionals to give them a regular and thorough cleaning. Often a business owner or manager doesn't take the time to consider the effect of unclean windows has on business. In an office, dirty windows can subtly contribute to low morale. In retail it is essential store front windows are sparkling so displays look their best and the store looks inviting.

Hiring professionals for window cleaning can be as simple as phoning a few firms and taking the lowest price. This isn't always prudent as the lowest price isn't always the best deal. Here are some simple steps to take to be sure you get it right.

Get referrals. A recommendation from someone you trust is always the preferred method of finding a service firm. If you can't manage a referral, head to the internet or phone directory to find local firms.

Research firms- A few things to look for: first, the firm should be fully insured. Check to see how long they have been in business. One can also perform a search of most firms and in many cases get reviews or determine if they have any major complaints lodged against them. In some cases, the firm may be a very small proprietorship, so it may make sense to search the owner's name to see what comes up.

Price quotations- Try and get estimates from at least three firms. The firm will need to visit the location in order to generate an accurate estimate and be sure whilst they are there you relay any specific needs or instructions you'd like carried out. You should also inquire about how they go about their cleaning and typical intervals. Some companies use power washers for outside and others traditional brush and squeegee. Also, if you are a retailer and use storefront windows for signage (either signs and posters or applied directly to the window) make sure this is discussed and acknowledged in the estimate.

Ask for references. As part of the estimate review process, ask for relevant customer referrals and follow-up. When speaking to the person with whom the firm referred you to, ask specific questions. Are they completely satisfied with the service they receive? Have they ever had any issues with the service? Does the firm keep appointments and show up regularly? Another great question is to ask if there is anything the firm could do to improve their service. This often leads to revealing comments.

Review contract. When you've determined the favored firm you'll likely be asked to sign a contract for a specific term. It is important to insist on a trial period or some way to cancel the obligation if the service is not up to your standard. Another approach is to simply go on a monthly term.

Closely monitor service during trial term. Of course a new firm will want to put its best foot forward during the initial period, but nonetheless inspect the work closely and be sure to provide feedback. This is good advice for the long term. If something is not being completed according to the contract, contact the firm immediately to rectify the problem. One should not put up with poor or substandard service. If service becomes a regular issue, it may be time to find a new firm!

Is Snow Shoveling Dangerous?

Snow shoveling used to be simple. Pick up a shovel and get to work clearing that driveway. These days it's much more complicated. Many new models have come to the market for manually clearing snow because of health risks. Several studies have been done recently that show a strong correlation between increased risk for heart attack and shoveling snow. For sources on this, simply search the web, where plenty of studies are outlined on credible websites such as ScienceDaily. Besides heart attacks, many other injuries are correlated, such as strokes, broken bones, injured neck and back, pulled muscles and even strained ligaments.

What's the science behind these studies? I mean really, how could snow shoveling lead to heart attacks? Well, it is usually done in bitter temperatures, and for those who are not exposed to strenuous workouts on a regular basis, shoveling can be a real shock to the heart, just like any other workout that you are unaccustomed to. Undergoing a strenuous workout with the addition of cold temperatures is what leads to increased strokes and heart attacks.
What does this mean for you? If you are older, it can be extremely dangerous and it is highly advised to find an alternative to conventional snow shoveling. There are a few easy alternatives to doing it yourself. Either have a younger friend or relative do it for you, or if that is unavailable, buy a snow shovel that will help lead to an easier, less exhausting experience. Buying smaller snow shovels and working at a slower pace is recommended, since that will lead less exhaustion than shoveling huge amounts of snow per shovel.

Since recent studies, there is a very important new shovel on the market named the "wovel." The wovel has been tested to be the safest snow shovel on the market because of its unique design. It is named the "wovel" because of the wheel the shovel rests on. It acts as a wheel barrow of some sorts, and allows people to move snow with much greater ease and efficiency. There are many other safety benefits to the wovel because of its design, and will overall reduce stress on your body.

Shoveling snow in the winter is a daunting task sometimes. We all know that aching feeling of looking at a menacing amount of snow to be cleared in your driveway. It's easy to grab the shovel and overexert yourself out in the cold, and I warn you against that. The last thing you want is suffering a major injury while spending some time outdoors in the snow. Once again, snow shoveling accidents are much more common than the average person would imagine, so take the necessary precautions by either buying a snow shovel that fits your needs or going at a slow and steady pace.
